I had heard so many great things about this restaurant, but after my experience there I have no idea where the praise is coming from. I went with a large portion of my family and we were quickly seated. Service after that was not only abysmally slow (and inexplicably so since there weren't many other diners in there) but the wait staff displayed an incredible lack of knowledge about the food. We had two vegans dining with us and the wait staff was unable to answer any question about the food that didn't have a clear answer on the menu itself. This culminated in one waitress claiming that the freshly grated parmesan cheese was "non-dairy." Whether she herself had a total lack of understanding of what "non-dairy" meant or she accidently let slip that the "fresh cheese" was imitation, I may never know. The food itself was served in the pan it was cooked in. The intention may have been to create something rustic and homey, but in truth the pans appeared greasy and dirty. The food itself was horrendously seasoned. My tortellini and pesto sauce was so over saturated with raw garlic that it blew my pallet and I was unable to taste anything else. I might have been willing to give the restaurant a second chance, on the assumption that perhaps the Monday night staff is not the top flight staff of the establishment, if it were not for the pricing. The food is priced as though it is fine dining, but at its best was no better than standard Italian take out you'd get from a local pizza place. Nothing about the menu, presentation, and especially service could ever justify the prices they have for the food. In short: never again.

Walked in with a friend after a long day at Dog Mountain upon the recommendation of our Bed and Breakfast. Let me make this short and sweet: The 3 stars is a result of 1-star service, and 5-star food. So, in the middle, here we have 3 stars. Rough service. Actually pretty rude. Waited 15 minutes to order. Place only had one older woman serving all the food. I could tell this place was rough around the edges, as in "the cook is possibly a headcase, and the place is understaffed so the 1 lone server is gonna rough us of verbally". But good lord my Linguine with garlic, olive oil, and red pepper was amazing. Amaaazzing. And served in the sautee pan in which it was cooked. That was fun. God bless this place for catering to the binging pigs that my friend and I are. This Italian food is some of the best I've ever had. Service: Expect some of the worst I've had. Food: Expect some of the best I've had.

Very good veal, we had Limone and Marsala. Nice family operation, the daughter was our waitress, the son-in-law the chef tonight.

Ok.... Can't really comment on the food since we never got served. Arrived here at ~7:20, and got seated promptly. However, that was just about the only attention we got. Waited for almost 20 minutes, still no service. No water, no drink order no nothing. A table after us got their orders taken first, so that's when we decided to just leave. Food seemed decent looking, and the place seemed busy, but not sure if its due to the slow service. There were only two workers--the cook and the waitress. After we bolted, we got served right away at Anthony's Diner. (ps-Their prices seemed steep for St. J's).

Passing through twice in August, I must say that we much appreciated this little gem! Excellent food, friendly authentic Italian service and a plus ....after many hours of driving and on our way to an B&B in Barnet we realized that eating mid evening would be a problem...of course when we arrived it was closed but the delightful owners said let us cook for you, wine was served, conversations and delicious pasta shared, this is Italy without having to cross the Atlantic, 1000 mercis ! See you next year. Oh la la ! It is in St Johnsbury .....

We spent two hours in a half full restaurant being served by 4 different servers, none of whom seemed to know anything about the menu. We were never asked for drink orders and after about 20 minutes our food order was taken. Wilted salads were delivered to our table with stale breadcrumbs. Bread came with what was a delicious olive oil & herb dipping bowl, but our server had no clue what was in the oil when she was asked. Once our food finally got to the table, it was cold for some, underseasoned for most. And, worst of all, it was served in piping hot skillets. Tacky. The food would've looked lovely on a simple white dish, but instead we enjoyed being burned every time we touched our giant frying pans. When one of our many confused servers asked if we wanted dessert, it took 10 minutes for her to return with someone who could list off what was available. The cannoli? Disgusting. And the coffee never even made it to the table. Upon leaving the restaurant, my husband and I remarked that we would consider ordering take out from there, because the food was so-so and would make a decent dinner on the run. Except the prices are so high ($18 for most entrees!!!) that it seemed unreasonable for us to order to go when we could just cook a more flavorful pasta dish at home. What a disappointment. Saint Johnsbury needs more quality, fresh, appropriately-priced restaurants in the area, but this one just isn't it!

Soso my wife and I shared a chicken calzone. It was big enough for two the crust was good but the stuffing was tasteless. The ambiance in very nice but the food... Two of the employees were absent and the lone waiter had to rush as the restaurant was full. We also got a Ceasar salad the was good though expensive 7+ dollars for a small bowl. We did not get any bread and oil and when I asked for some I was told it would spoil my dinner. At $80.00 fro two, I think I should be able to spoil it if I want to.

Homemade Ravioli was excellent, served in the pan with lots of chunky tomato sauce. Partner thought spicy marinara a little too spicy. Panncotta rich and good.

A little Italy in the Northeast Kingdom of VT. The food was delicious and fresh and the atmosphere felt European. The menu is quite large for a small family run restaurant. They serve both pizza or calzones as well as excellent traditional and creatively created Italian food.. Everything is made to order. Highly recommended! They tend to be open a little later than most area restaurants as well, but remember, this is a small town, so everything closes earlier than you might expect if you live in a city.

I loved it, I got pizza and taro cake. The pizza was turned into a masterpiece while the cake was great too. I was impressed,it was affordable for people outside town,in local area it might be more pricey. These are Italian people, remember that. They bring Italy to a small town in Vermont. Place is roomy, they have limited staff(family) and treat the place as a manifested hospitality:what you want is what you get. Later we also tried a tortellini dish, shared, and it was super. I will always go back here, being from the area but moved to Boston, it's odd how real Italiano is back home in French countryside. Highly recommend it,be patient and you are well rewarded! pics soon!

What to say about the Cantina. I was really excited to have some italian food after relocating from NY. This excitement was short lived though as the experience there was less than optimal. The dishes were water logged and the atmosphere was awkward and uncomfortable. The bread was stale to boot. While the staff were friendly, the food and aura of the restaurant left a lot to be desired. I wish the food was better :/ maybe it was a bad day in there and I should give it a second chance?

A late lunch so the eatery was slow. Started with the bruschetta. It was very tasty, better than some large city Italian restaurants. Wife and daughter shared mixed Ravioli, mushroom was bland but spinach and cheese was very good. Portion was very large which we found unusual for a ravioli dish, pleasant surprise. I had the the Chicken Pesto, dish was good. I like my pesto with more kick but that is a personal taste. Yes we would recommend, we are going back again this trip. Make reservations, we were turned away for dinner on a Tuesday, in August.

I had a great meal here with a friend. We were reluctant due to some negative reviews but were thrilled to have gone. They made us a special order sea food Alfredo. It was a very generous portion, enough to bring home, with great quality seafood and a rich sauce. Wine selection and house salad rounded it off well. No room for dessert. A welcome spot for hard to find Italian food that is not pizza!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
